Chesterfield, MO – Shake off those cold weather blues at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House’s annual wintertime event, Hot, Hot, Hot! This tropical-themed, kid-friendly event features activities, games and crafts that will make you go absolutely buggy. Activities are Saturday and Sunday, Jan 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days and are included with Butterfly House admission.

Warm your bones inside the 8,000 square-foot tropical conservatory, at a constant, perfectly toasty temperature of 85 degrees. The conservatory is home to hundreds of butterflies, lush tropical plants, pools and waterfalls that will make you feel like you are on an exotic holiday.

Participate in fun, educational crafts and games that are suited for children ages two through eight. Race a radio-controlled critter through a tropical maze in “Vroom, Vroom,” and propel a water strider across the koi pond in “Strider Glider.” Help a bee to his hive in the carnival classic, “Bee Booster.” Discover the differences between insects and arachnids as you “Build-a-Bug.” Learn why the butterfly is so colorful in “Scale Tale.” Explore symmetry through decorating butterflies with fun foam shapes in “Mirror Image.”

Dance to the groovy tropical sounds of live steel drums, hit the “beach” to build a sandcastle in the toddler sandbox and get your face painted in exotic colors to mark the day’s adventures.

Hot, Hot, Hot! activities are included with Butterfly House admission of $6 for adults, $4.50 for seniors (ages 65 and over) and $4 for children (ages 3 to 12). Children ages 2 and under and Missouri Botanical Garden members are free.
