Volunteers Plant Butterfly Meadow at Catoctin Creek Park

Volunteers recently completed a 1.5-acre butterfly meadow at a Middletown park that will be dedicated to the memory of Francie Billotti-Wood and her three children, who were killed in 2009.

A memorial fund established in Billotti-Wood’s name donated more than $4,000 to the project at Catoctin Creek Park and Nature Center, at 2929 Sumantown Road.

More than 30 volunteers constructed a system of mulched trails for the butterfly meadow and planted 13 pounds of native Maryland wildflower seeds in the park.

Volunteers will return in April to help install four benches and plant spring wildflowers in the meadow. A commemorative plaque honoring the Billotti-Wood family will be added and a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to officially open the butterfly meadow in May.
