Best Garden Plants for Pollinator Insects: Chart

You need a good succession of flowers – food sources for insects – spread across the year.

Bees and butterflies hibernate in winter, so don’t forage when it’s truly cold.

But it’s good to have a few winter-flowering plants that bees can use on warmer days and a regular food source from March to November.

Honeybees forage whenever temperatures are above 50F.

In the past decade with (mostly) milder winters some bumblebees are starting nests in winter, not spring.
